EACS Summer School in Chinese Studies

Seán Golden, a member of the Inter-Asia research group, was the keynote speaker at the Summer School in Chinese Studies organised by the European Association of Chinese Studies (EACS) at the Università Ca'Foscari Venezia in collaboration with the Dipartamento di Studi sull'Asia e sull'Africa Mediterranea (DSAAM) of Ca'Foscari and the Istituto Confucio presso l'Università Ca'Foscari Venezia from 2-6 September 2013.

The EACS Summer School in Chinese Studies 2013 was dedicated to History and Historiography in Imperial China and the Encounter with the West. Seán Golden spoke on The Role and Meaning of Imperial History in Contemporary China.

Entrevista a Josep Soler i Casanellas, col·leccionista d'art i impulsor de la mostra "Pure Views"

Fins el proper 28 setembre, l'Arts Santa Mònica de la Rambla barcelonina acull la mostra "Pure Views. Transformacions de l'art xinès contemporani", una gran mostra d'art xinès contemporani (pintura, video i instal·lacions) co-organitzada per Chengdu MOCA i l'Arts Santa Mònica, i comissariada per Lu Peng 吕澎.

Un personatge clau per a fer realitat "Pure Views" a Barcelona ha estat el col·leccionista Josep Soler i Casanellas. El membre d'InterAsia Xavier Ortells va trobar-se amb en Josep el darrer juliol per a saber com va ser el procés d'organitzar l'exposició i conèixer la seva opinió, com a col·leccionista, sobre el mercat de l'art xinès.

A comparison between Lu Xun and Venuti

In the circle of translation studies, Lawrence Venuti is usually considered the most prominent representative of the method of foreignization. However, very few people know that in China there is also a great theorist and translator, Lu Xun, who developed his own method of foreignization years earlier than Venuti. This article aims at carrying out a contrastive analysis of Lu Xun’s and Venuti’s translation theory. It will mainly focus on the method of foreignization, which will be also illustrated with examples of their translations. After a detailed comparison between the two authors, we can conclude that their views on foreignization present many similarities, but also some differences, due to their different historical and social contexts.

Chi Peng 迟鹏, Why should I love you? 凭什么让我爱你, 2008

 Els dies 24 a 27 de juny va tenir lloc la 8a edició de la International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS). Vora 1500 investigadors es van reunir al faraònic hotel The Venetian de Macau per quatre dies de debats multidisciplinars sobre diferents països de l'Àsia. 

El membre d'InterAsia Xavier Ortells hi va coordinar la sessió "Ruins, Heritage, and Monumentality in China", on es va discutir el valor del llegat arqueològic o les noves icones arquitectòniques, i hi va presentar la seva recerca sobre la representació de la demolició urbana a l'obra de fotògrafs experimentals xinesos, com Wang Qingsong, Jiang Penyi o Sun Yanchu.

El proper dimecres 8 de maig s'inaugura una exposició col·lectiva de fotografia, organitzada per la Fundació Institut Confuci de Barcelona en col·laboració amb el Grup de Recerca InterAsia.

La mostra inclou imatges de la Xina dels fotògrafs Sergi Bernal, Víctor Cañellas, Ferrán Castrillo, César Merino, Sara Janini i Carles Mercader.

Università Ca'Foscari Venezia Visiting Professor

During the Spring Term 2013, Sean Golden, a member of the Inter-Asia Research Group, has been invited to be Visiting Professor at the Dipartimento di Studi sull'Asia e sull'Africa Mediterranea (DSAAM) of the Università Ca'Foscari Venezia, where he is teaching a. course on Chinese Philosophy, Comparative Cultural Studies, Modernism & Postmodernism (Storia della filosofia e religioni della Cina antica) in the Lingue e civiltà dell'Asia e dell'Africa Mediterranea (LICAAM) M.A. programme.

He has also given a PhD lecture on Liu Xie 刘勰, Ernest Fenollosa and 20th century avant-garde writing and art, and a lecture to undergraduate students of Ca'Foscari's International College on The Role of Ancient Chinese Thought in Modern Chinese Politics & Foreign Policy.

He has also been named to be a member of the university's Collegio docenti del Dottorato for the PhD programme in Lingue e Civiltà dell'Asia e dell'Africa mediterranea.
